Chef Kwame Dennis Pop Up Dinner

Recently, Shelly and I had the pleasure of attending the Pop Up Dinner of Chef Kwame Dennis, hosted by  Cherryl Lemi-Gutierrez of #TravelwithChefCherryl. What a wonderful night indeed! Local sponsors provided Chef Kwame with a wide assortment of ingredients, which he used to create some marvelous dishes. He absolutely showed the group that with over 20 years of experience in the food world, he has the ability to stay creative and craft versatile menus to suit everyone!

Over the course of the evening, we indulged in five hors d' ouevres options, two first course selections, four entree offerings and a decadent dessert. Our list of highlights includes the creamy and comforting Patatas Bravas (gouda cheese, sour cream and crispy chicken skin)- Amazing!!,  Micro Arugula Radish Salad (pinenuts and citrus poppyseed vinaigrette), Jerk Pork (jicama slaw, plantains, balsamic fig glaze), Chef Kwame's Crabcake (remoulade, fingerling potato hash, and micro red Swiss chard) and the uber delicious Cinnamon Bun Bread Pudding from Barry's Buns!

If you don't already, please follow @chefkwamedennis (you never know when you'll need a great private chef or caterer) and @phillyfoodgal (#TravelwithChefCherryl) for great culinary happenings in the Philadelphia area.

Please follow the sponsors of the evening on Instagram at the below handles. They create and provide great foodie products that will certainly please your palate!

Philly Burger Brawl 2017

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of attending the annual Philly Burger Brawl. If you've never been, you really need to mark your calendar for next year beacuse it's an awesome event. And in case you couldn't tell from the pictures, there is much more to the brawl than just burgers!

Beneath all of the delicious food and the fight for championship titles is a fantastic cause. Burger Brawl was actually started as a fundraiser over five years ago and continues to fund literacy programming for underserved children in Philadelphia. In fact, over $200,000 has been donated towards literacy in Philadelphia Public Elementary Schools through this event!

The extensive variety of food offered included burgers (of course!), tacos and wings. In addition, fruit and water ice and cocktails were available as refreshing treats.

Attendees lined up for what seemed like miles to sample delectables from over 60 vendors! They were given poker chips to drop in the bucket for their fav palate pleasers in the People's Choice category.

A panel of judges including foodies from across the Philadelphia area voted for the big category of Best Burger. Check out the list of winners below!

Best Burger- Village Whiskey: The Frenchy Burger

Best Burger People's Choice Award-Union TapThe Pig Mac

Taco Take Down: El Vez

Taco Take Down People's Choice: Revolution Taco

King of the Wing: Amanda's Bar None

Cut Throat Cocktail: Moonshine Philadelphia

While these guys took home the gold, we can honestly say that we didn't have one thing that lacked taste or flavor! We encourage you to visit the Philly Burger Brawl site, check out all of the vendors and support them for being part of a great cause. Your tastebuds will also thank you!

**Special Thanks to Glossman PR for the complimentary tickets and to @phillyfoodgal, founder of the #TravelwithChefCherrylSeries for the invite!**

SUGA by Susanna Foo

We had the pleasure of hanging with the Travel with Chef Cherryl crew to taste the new happy hour menu at Suga downtown Philly. The menu was so amazing! The happy hour prices are great but the quality of the food and service is what set this restaurant apart from the rest.

The happy hour menu items range from $3(Crispy Shrimp Spring Roll) to $8(Spicy honey chicken nuggets-not ya mama's nuggets!). The portions are big enough for one person to order about 2-3 items and leave stuffed. We suggest visiting with a group of friends and order every item(12 items total) so everyone gets a taste of everything. Drink specials include beer, sake, wine, and a cocktail and start at only $4.

If for some reason you can't get there during normal happy hour times, fret not! They have late night happy hour on Friday and Saturday(10-12). After happy hour ends, stay for karaoke from 11-2am.

We had a great time at Suga and can't wait to visit again with a large group! Center City Sips is now on every Wednesday in Philly so definitely put Suga on your list as a pit stop. We wouldn't be surprised if you found yourself staying there the whole time.

Enjoy friends!
